MGIT–EEE and IIT Hyderabad–EE Strengthen Academic and Research Collaboration

News Date : 27 Oct 2025     News Report

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (Autonomous), Hyderabad, has strengthened its academic and research partnership with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), through formal Letters of Collaboration. These collaborations recognize and consolidate the growing academic, research, and industry-linked engagements between the two institutions.

As part of this collaboration, MGIT–EEE students have undertaken major B.Tech projects in real-time power quality analytics and micro-grid monitoring and management. A significant outcome of this partnership is the successful pilot and campus-wide deployment of the Campus Energy Monitoring and Management System (CEMMS) at MGIT. The system was developed by Power Sense Pvt. Ltd., an IIT Hyderabad–incubated start-up, and provides a live platform for campus-wide energy monitoring, power quality assessment, and advanced energy analytics.

The collaboration has also resulted in a joint research paper accepted for presentation at the International Conference on Power Systems (ICPS-2025) at IIT Hyderabad, highlighting the effective academic–industry–research synergy between MGIT and IITH.

Future collaborative activities will focus on:

  • Student projects, internships, and hands-on training
  • Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) and technical workshops
  • Joint research proposals and publications
  • Smart grid, micro-grid, and sustainable energy initiatives
  • Data-driven campus energy management using CEMMS

This non-binding academic collaboration aims to strengthen long-term cooperation, enhance experiential learning, promote impactful research, and support sustainable energy management practices for mutual institutional benefit.
